Machine Operator A

Location: Orange, CT (60 Marsh Hill Rd)

About the role

Under general supervision, operates digging and backfilling equipment, such as backhoes, trenchers/backhoes, and payloaders. Loads and tows trailers for moving backhoes, trenching machines, and payloaders. Performs all work in the Street Technician B classification and the following additional duties:

• Digs, levels, and backfills main and service trenches with power-operated equipment.
• Digs and backfills excavations to repair leaks and perform other maintenance using power-operated equipment.
• Grades, levels, and spreads patch on trenches and other excavations.
• Performs street work and drives Street Department vehicles when called upon.
• Makes minor field repairs and adjustments on vehicles and equipment, including lubricating, cleaning, checking fuel, and tightening bolts, nuts, and screws.

Requirements

Must meet all qualifications of Street Technician B and additionally:

• Demonstrate ability to perform the duties of Street Technician B in a neat, competent, and workmanlike manner.
• Prove competency in operating Street Department vehicles and possess the appropriate Connecticut driver’s license.
• Successfully complete the training program for this job.
• Pass Motor Vehicle Department tests for operating CDL Class A vehicles.

Pay

Hourly rate: $49.59 - $54.34
