About the role

The Medical Assistant will function within the State of Ohio scope of practice to administer direct care to patients, under the direction of the provider or registered nurse and practice manager, following all policies and procedures for Mount Carmel Health System, Mount Carmel Medical Group, and department-specific guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and room patients: record height, weight, and vitals
• Review medical history, chief complaints, and gather other relevant information
• Handle prior authorization and referrals
• Schedule procedures and surgeries
• Assist with in-office procedures, sterilization of equipment, and rooms
• Manage in-basket messages, patient follow-up calls, and messages using EPIC

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with 1-2 years of medical experience OR a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in science/health
• Graduate/completion of a medical assistant program preferred
• Medical Assistant Certification or Registration preferred
• Graduate of EMT, EMT-P, or Military Medical Corpsman training preferred
• For MCMG only: Nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification or Registration preferred
• One to two years of medical assisting experience preferred (in lieu of required education, two to three years of previous medical office experience is required)
• Current BLS/CPR certification, which must be maintained
