About the role
A professional multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician.
Responsibilities
- Take patient's vital signs
- Prepare patients for the provider's care
- Assist with patient examinations or treatments
- Correctly document all entries in the medical record, either electronic or hard copy, to include signature, date and time
- Administer medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of licensed physician
- Observe and report patients' signs or symptoms
- Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider
- Administer basic first aid
- Participates in performance improvement projects
- Participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care
- Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers
Requirements
- High School Diploma / GED required at time of hire
- Completed MA program accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required, or within 6 months
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire – American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Medical Terminology Certificate preferred at time of hire
Qualifications
- 1-year medical assistant experience – preferred
- 2–4 years clerical/customer service experience, ideally in a health care related industry – preferred
- 1-year experience with third party payors – preferred
- Computer experience for inputting data and reviewing – preferred
Additional duties
May travel to other clinics. Additional duties as assigned may vary.
