Responsibilities
- Evaluates and treats patients with lymphedema of the upper extremities, lower extremities, head/neck, breast and genitals using Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT).
- Guides patients through their lymphedema maintenance program, including measuring for custom and ready-to-wear garments, developing home exercise programs, and assisting with the process of obtaining specialized equipment such as pneumatic compression pumps.
- Collaborates closely with other hospital departments and fosters teamwork to deliver high-quality care to patients.
- Affords expert, patient-centered care and improves the quality of life for individuals with lymphedema and related conditions.
Requirements
- Successfully completed training with a certified lymphedema training course (e.g., Klose Training, Norton Training).
- Active MA Physical Therapy license.
- Absolutely required to be American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
Qualifications
- Education: BS Physical Therapy from an accredited program.
- Experience: Minimum of two years as a licensed physical therapist with professional, clinical experience in a physical therapy setting.
Skills
- Knowledge of Physical Therapy theory and practice.
- Ability to observe, assess and record objective findings, symptoms, reactions and progress.
- Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses, and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient.
- Knowledge of Physical Therapy services, facilities and equipment.
- Ability to assess individual patient needs.
- Skill in maintaining patient medical record.
- Knowledge of range of therapy methods and techniques.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information.
- Ability to provide leadership and mentorship.
