About the role
The Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing care for patients under supervision of the physician or mid-level provider. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physicians.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Completion of Vocational Nursing Program or Associate’s Degree in Nursing
- Minimum Work Experience: One-year License Vocational Nurse experience
- Required Licenses/Certifications: Current state vocational nurse license, Current CPR certificate
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology
- Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions
- Understanding of documentation standards
- Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and materials needed for medical treatment
- Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening
- Knowledge of infectious disease management and control and safety standards
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to infection control, environmental safety and patient confidentiality
- Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records
- Knowledge of management and organizational theory to supervise the business practices including principles of employee development to train, delegate and mentor staff
- Knowledge of medications and other pharmacological agents used in a clinic setting
- Knowledge in diseases and disease processes
- Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques
- Skill in appropriate use of universal precautions, safe workplace and confidentiality methods
- Skill in health information management by appropriately charting patient data
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others
- Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands
