About the role
This job is essential to the operation of the optimization processes at the yard. This position assists the Lead Sawyer with all phases of putting together an optimized (cut) package and reports directly to the Lumber Lead Sawyer and General Manager.
Qualifications
- OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred
- Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols
- Knowledge of dimension lumber, species of material, panel products and other building materials
- Ability to speak, write, and read English required
- Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices
Responsibilities
- Safely operate all equipment
- Maintain yard and area cleanliness during the course of work
- Perform daily safety audits of saws and other equipment and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment to the Lead Sawyer
- Utilize proper shutdown and maintenance procedures
- Utilize all proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times (shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, no loose clothes/hair/jewelry, etc.)
- Enforce the Lock Out Tag Out program
- Load the saw with lumber both by hand and with a forklift
- Cut lumber to specific dimensions
- Maintain equipment (remove and install blades as needed)
- Sort material onto sorting table
- Execute quality control for layouts and proper printing on components
- Sort, stack, and prepare packs by wall number, in an effective fashion
- Safely prepare optimization loads for delivery
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 80 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Working Days and Schedule
The working days are Monday-Thursday, plus Fridays as needed. Hours and schedule may change based on workload and season.
