About the role

The role involves delivering direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The graduate nurse works directly with the RN to implement and evaluate a patient's care plan, and assists with various nursing tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers direct and indirect patient care in accordance with state regulations and hospital policies.
  • Assists the RN in collecting patient health care data and implementing an individualized plan of care.
  • Observes and records patient symptoms and reactions, and reports significant changes to the RN.
  • Performs nursing functions such as initiating and maintaining IV therapy, assisting with rehabilitation, and educating patients about safe medication use.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with physicians and other healthcare providers to ensure patient outcomes.
  • Communicates relevant information for interdisciplinary patient care conferences and transfers.
  • Serves as a resource person and acts as a patient advocate.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and assumes appropriate roles during code situations.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions based on legal and ethical nursing practices.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Graduate Practical Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completed Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances.
  • Successfully completed the licensure exam within six months of graduation.

  • Ability to communicate complex topics to diverse audiences.
  • Experience in patient care and education.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
