Department Description

Nurses in the Telehealth Nursing department demonstrate strong competency in using various telecommunication technologies to provide direct virtual nursing care. Telehealth Nursing RNs triage, prioritize patient needs, collaborate with patients to develop care plans, direct them to the appropriate level of care, and provide referrals to Emory services and other resources to ensure a comprehensive care experience. Telehealth Nursing LPNs assist patients with prescription management across specialties.

Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in routine nursing situations within the LPN scope of practice. Under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider, the LPN assists in patient care, treatment, and comfort. This role is an integral part of the healthcare team, ensuring quality care in alignment with Emory Healthcare's patient and family-centered care standards.

Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Duties

  • Provide patient care based on an individualized plan delegated by the Registered Nurse/Physician.
  • Monitor and document patient conditions, including vital signs, wound care, drains, and lab values.
  • Assist with medical procedures, treatments, and medication administration as per scope of practice.
  • Collect and document patient data using specialized equipment as needed (e.g., glucometer, pulse oximeter).
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and therapeutic environment following safety and infection control protocols.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Establish and maintain communication with the healthcare team, patients, and families.
  • Inform the supervising Registered Nurse/Physician about patient activities, observations, and changes in condition.
  • Provide patient and family education related to health conditions, treatment plans, and home care.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and confidential maintenance of patient medical records.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and patient safety standards in all interactions.
  • Follow Emory Healthcare's policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Quality Improvement & Professional Development

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to best practices in patient care.
  • Conduct or assist with in-service training and continuous learning opportunities.
  • May serve on sectional, departmental, or organizational committees as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
  • A valid, unencumbered license as a Practical Nurse in the State of Georgia.
  • Compact / multi-state license is required for this role.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Previous experience preferred but not required.
  • LPN must be available to work a flexible PRN schedule. PRN associates are required to work a minimum of 24 hours each month.
  • Training will be held onsite in Atlanta for 6+ weeks.

  • Computer proficiency in multiple systems, including intermediate knowledge of Windows-based applications (Microsoft Office suite, etc).

Physical Requirements

  • Medium-Heavy: 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly).
  • Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs.
  • Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting.
  • Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing).
  • Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
