Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern PA is an 86-bed acute-care Joint Commission Accredited psychiatric hospital providing care for adults with mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders. Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to assigned group of patients by collecting data and identifying deviations from normal; assist with reassessing patients according to assignments, need, and unit protocol under the direction of the registered nurse.
• Accurately and thoroughly document all findings in the patient record; identify expected outcomes based on assessment data and communicate pertinent findings with other healthcare members.
• Implement nursing care interventions identified in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan in collaboration with other healthcare providers; perform nursing procedures/treatments as prescribed by physician/LIP.
• Conduct bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provide comfort and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Promote patient ability to cope, adapt, and/or solve situations related to illness and/or stressors; provide supportive, age-appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions.
• Ensure safe delivery of medications in accordance with facility policies and physician orders; administer medications using established safety procedures and standards.
• Assess patients before and after medication administration; accurately communicate/document medication doses prescribed and provide patient education on administered medications.
• Follow up on patient care responsibilities; communicate incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines to ensure continuity of care; transcribe orders accurately and perform chart audits according to facility guidelines.
• Utilize nursing knowledge to meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff members; guide, educate, and provide leadership as a preceptor to new staff.

Requirements

• Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse in the state of employment; valid Compact licenses are acceptable.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.

• Ability to work in high-stress environments and assess potential for patient escalation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills to achieve positive results with internal and external customers.
• Highly organized with understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs populations, including Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, and Chemical Dependency.
• Basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development.
• Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of patient care.
• Demonstrates self-confidence and ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others.
• Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

• Subject to many interruptions with occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries.
• Position can be high-paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically in the atmosphere.
• May experience disagreeable odors, sights, and/or unpredictable patient behavior.
• Spends approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building offering protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
