LPN - Part-time Nights

About the role

Part-time night shift position (7 p.m.–7 a.m.) with 2–12 scheduled hours per week and weekend rotation. New graduates are welcome.

Haven Behavioral Hospital of Eastern PA is an 86-bed acute-care Joint Commission-accredited psychiatric hospital providing specialty behavioral health services for adults with mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders. Responsibilities

• Collect patient data and identify deviations from normal; assist with reassessment under the direction of the registered nurse.
• Document findings and communicate pertinent assessment data to the health care team.
• Implement individualized multidisciplinary treatment plans using accepted standards of practice.
• Perform nursing procedures/treatments as prescribed by physician/LIP, including bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and ADLs.
• Promote patient coping, adaptation, and problem-solving related to illness and stressors.
• Provide supportive, age-appropriate, culturally acceptable interventions and document special needs.
• Administer medications safely and accurately; ensure pre- and post-administration assessments and patient education.
• Communicate/document medication doses and follow up on patient care responsibilities to ensure continuity.
• Transcribe orders accurately and perform chart audits according to facility guidelines.
• Utilize nursing knowledge to meet facility, patient population, and staff needs; enhance evidence-based practice.
• Guide, educate, and serve as a preceptor to new staff.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Current, valid, and active LPN license in the state of employment; compact licenses accepted.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.

• Ability to work in high-stress environments and assess escalation potential.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with internal and external customers.
• Highly organized with sensitivity to culturally diverse and special-needs populations (chronically mentally ill, geriatric, co-occurring disorders).
• Understanding of normal physical and emotional development.
• Critical thinking for continuous improvement of patient care.
• Self-confidence and conceptual thinking to lead and direct others.
• Completion of CPR certification and an approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Work Environment

Subject to frequent interruptions and occasional pressure from multiple calls and inquiries. High-paced and potentially stressful environment requiring mental and physical coping. May encounter disagreeable odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior. Position requires spending approximately 90% or more of time inside a building offering protection from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes.
