About the role
The Clinic Medical Assistant at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center provides support in the medical field by performing various medical and clerical activities to ensure quality care and an efficient workplace.
Responsibilities
- Escorts patients to exam rooms.
- Obtains and documents data including chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, pain levels, medication history, and fall risk.
- Anticipates and prepares exam rooms with required equipment and supplies.
- Assists with exams and procedures as needed.
- Utilizes written policies and procedures and universal precautions during lab/diagnostic tests or procedures.
- Reports and documents critical lab/diagnostic test values to providers.
- Maintains quality control logs, proficiency tests, and maintenance records.
- Schedules patients for office appointments, lab/diagnostic tests, and referrals.
- Reviews written test preparation handouts with patients and documents in medical records.
- Refers patients to providers/nurses if additional education is required.
- Completes charge tickets and submits charges in the electronic health record, identifying and initialing all billable supplies and services.
- Obtains ABNs as necessary.
- Administers medications safely, documenting administrations and following proper procedures for various routes.
- Maintains competency in administering medications via multiple routes.
- Documents notifications and follow-ups for phone messages under provider supervision.
Requirements
- A minimum of six months work experience in a healthcare facility performing patient care duties is preferred.
- Additional experience with computer knowledge is beneficial.
- A Medical Assistant Graduate of an approved school is required.
- Credential as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NCMA) is required, with CCMA certification accepted upon successful completion of a training program.

Schedule
The schedule is Full Time, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
