About the role
Average work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.
Responsibilities
- Provides support in the medical field by performing various medical and clerical activities to assure quality care and a more efficient workplace.
- Escorts patients to exam rooms.
- Obtains and documents data such as chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, pain levels, medication history, and fall risk.
- Anticipates and prepares exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assists with exams and procedures as requested.
- Utilizes written policies and procedures and universal precautions when performing lab/diagnostic tests or procedures.
- Reports and documents critical lab/diagnostic test values to providers.
- Maintains quality control as needed, including logging, proficiency tests, maintenance records, etc.
- Schedules patients for office appointments, lab/diagnostic tests, and referrals.
- Reviews written test preparation handouts with patients and documents in medical records.
- Refers patients to providers/nurses if patient education is required.
- Completes charge tickets and submits charges in the electronic health record, identifying and initialing all billable supplies and services.
- Obtains ABNs as necessary per e-LMRP.
- Administers medications with emphasis on patient safety, documenting administrations.
- Maintains competency in administering medications via various routes: IM, SQ, ID, oral, inhalation, ocular, optic, topical, sublingual, and nasal.
- Documents notifications and follow-ups for phone messages under direct supervision of a provider.
Requirements
- A minimum of six months work experience in a health care facility performing duties related to patient care is preferred.
- Additional experience involving computer knowledge is desired.
- Education: Medical Assistant Graduate of an approved school for medical assistant required. Credentialed as a medical assistant is required (CMA, RMA, NCMA). CCMA certification is accepted with successful completion of a training program.
Qualifications
- Must be able to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
