LPN/Medical Assistant/EMT

HealthPartners is hiring for a LPN/Medical Assistant/EMT position within Primary Care. Located in Wabasha, this role offers a SIGN-ON BONUS.
Responsibilities
- Identify common and recurring nursing needs of the patient.
- Recognize the need for and perform routine office procedures and testing in the ambulatory care setting.
- Absorb and provide direct care to patients and families.
- Document observations, actions, and patient outcomes.
- Teach techniques or provide information according to established programs.
- Accurately and appropriately document procedures and treatment in each patient's record.
- Communicate information to other members of the healthcare team.
- Provide the patient and family with current and accurate information regarding the procedure and care.
- Perform telephone screening under direction of RN or MD.
- Serve as a catalyst in improving standards of LPN practice.
- Assure patients' rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
- Maintain current practice by obtaining continuing education in relevant practice areas.
- Maintain CPR certification.
- Room patients and complete vital signs and other pertinent physical measurements.
- Administer medication and clinical procedures according to authorized policy and documented according to HealthPartners policy.
- Review charts for the presence of pertinent information relevant to the patient’s appointment.
- Handle patient and their records in a private and confidential manner per HealthPartners policy.
- Seek medical and/or nursing assistance when encountering an acutely ill patient or a patient with a changing condition.
- Prepare exam rooms and treatment rooms and set up for procedures.
- Absorb and assist provider as needed.
- Prepare the patient for medical interventions.
- Prepare charts and records for appointments as indicated by the type of clinic visit according to established practices.
- Check MSRs for completion and route appropriately.
- Process drug refills according to clinic protocols.
- Monitor station logs as assigned.
- Facilitate timely and accurate flow of communication within the clinic/location.
- Accurately receive and relay messages and test results to the appropriate person/location in a manner consistent with clinic practices and/or standards.
- Gather all necessary and appropriate information from a caller and relay information to the appropriate provider for necessary follow-up.
- Inform reception desk of provider’s schedule status and assist in coordination of urgent and non-urgent provider schedule changes to ensure patient and provider needs are met.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment according to procedure and OSHA standards.
- Complete scheduled cleaning requirements for designated work areas.
- Document completion of work to comply with infection control and OSHA standards.
- Implement other infection control procedures as needed and adhere to protective clothing requirements.
- Ensure clinic supplies are adequately stocked and well organized.
- Process and deliver department inventory requests in a timely manner.
- Routinely check expiration dates and remove or replace outdated supplies.
- Maintain prescription sample supply cabinet as per clinic protocol.
- Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and adequate records are kept.
- Ensure instruments and equipment are calibrated as needed and maintained in proper working order.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current LPN licensure in Minnesota.
- Current BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling.
- One year working experience as an LPN is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Graduated of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR Graduate of an accredited EMT program and current EMT License.
- Current BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including appropriate use of English grammar and spelling.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration through AAMA or AMT is preferred.
Qualifications
The qualifications for both the LPN and Medical Assistant/EMT positions include the ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Must possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position. Manual dexterity required. Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently. Proficiency in other languages may be required. Some positions may have lifting requirements.
Skills
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Proficiency in computer systems and software is also important.
