LPN INPATIENT - Medical Step Down Unit

What You'll Help With

Transform Healthcare by specializing in the care of Hospitalist Medicine patients with a focus on renal and various other medical diagnoses. Serve as an alternate unit for GI, Pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients being covered by Hospitalists. Can handle up to 2 chronically ventilated patients.

Responsibilities

• Practically nursing within the parameters set by Carilion Clinics Plans for the Provision of Patient Care
• Collaborate with RNs to collect, plan, implement, and evaluate patient/resident care
• Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians
• Develop and incorporate patient/resident educational needs into the care plan
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to care for patients/residents
• Implement and administer prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures
• Administer prescribed medication to patients/residents
• Advocate for patients, protect their rights, and provide psychological/social/cultural support
• Contribute to Carilion's performance improvement activities and support service area/facility/organization initiatives
• Assign tasks as needed

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
• Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia
• Successfully complete de-escalation training within four months of hire and maintain it going forward
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret necessary information to identify patient needs
• Provide care according to departmental policies and procedures
