  • Administers medications, monitors IV and blood transfusions, monitors vital signs and performs routine treatments and procedures in an Infusion center setting.
  • Performs phlebotomy as directed by the needs of the department.
  • Maintains patients records and charts, recording pertinent information, medications, treatments administered, treatment response and initiating patient incident reports as needed.
  • Reinforces patient teaching and discharge instructions.
  • Works closely with immune compromised patients in a supportive role with Chemo/Bio certified Registered Nurses.

Resource Driven Practice

  • Seeks education resources and create learning experiences to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills for his/her continuing competence in nursing practice and individual growth.
  • Includes continuing education, council and committee participation, and process improvement activities.
  • Seeks education and supervision as necessary when implementing nursing practice techniques.
  • Demonstrates prompt shift arrival and meets all attendance standards.

Outcomes

  • In conjunction with the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient achievement of goals and when necessary, alters and establishes strategies to meet revisions in the patient's plan of care.
  • Conducts purposeful rounding to assess, evaluate, and anticipate needs.
  • Participates in the review and evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Completes other job related duties and projects as assigned.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education And Experience

The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an LPN accredited school of nursing. Must have a current license to practice as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Indiana. A minimum of 1 to 2 years of job-related experience is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Participates in patient interdisciplinary planning as well as performing nursing care procedures, assessments, treatment and techniques under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Requires strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to participate in the implementation of plans of patient care/education in changing patient situations with recognition of actual and potential problems, patient/family involvement and the collection of data related to unit nursing care concerns.
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain positive therapeutic relationships with patients and families and effective working relationships with staff, physicians and others.
  • Requires team member skills in order to provide constructive feedback to peers regarding nursing issues, and participates in unit and hospital based decision making.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to adapt and support change.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
  • Requires general working knowledge of the normal growth, development, related behaviors, needs, comfort, and range of treatments appropriate to the age (including, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) and diagnosis of patient served to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Requires an understanding of the need to be responsive and reasonably adaptable for scheduling purposes, when necessary, due to extenuating circumstances in support of co-workers and department functions.
  • Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Functions within the legal boundaries of Indiana Nurse Practice Act based on the knowledge of statutes and rules governing nursing.
