Overview

Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in care of patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. The LPN must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patient served, understand principles of growth and development across the lifespan, and provide care according to departmental policy and procedure. The role promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives. The LPN may work in a variety of settings within Riverside Health System, collaborating with leadership and a multidisciplinary team to deliver a comprehensive range of services in line with Riverside’s standards of excellence and strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with patients and families, under RN supervision, to implement the plan of care, treatments, and procedures that support physiological and psychosocial outcomes.
  • Incorporate evidence‑based standards of practice and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of the plan of care.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to promote patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focus on quality outcomes by applying current evidence‑based practice and quality measures.
  • Perform nursing skills accurately and efficiently, including vital signs, blood sugars, administering treatments and medications, and phlebotomy, while following protocols and physician orders.
  • Adapt educational approaches to diverse patient populations, evaluate patient/family comprehension, and document responses.
  • Build trusting, collaborative relationships with peers and the multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs.
  • Complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prioritize tasks appropriately to ensure quality patient care and meet patient needs.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Assess personal support needs and utilize identified systems/resources to obtain assistance when needed.

Qualifications

  • Education: Practical Nursing program graduate (required) and High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Experience: 1 year acute care experience (preferred).
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) – required upon hire.
    • CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute – required upon hire.
  • Other Requirements: Participation in call rotation.

Pay

Hiring range: $25.80 – $35.48 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
