Responsibilities

  • Involves patient/family in the development of care plan.
  • Prioritizes and performs direct care to patients according to policy.
  • Explains and documents procedures and interventions.
  • Identifies and performs appropriately in emergent situations.
  • Affixes to multidisciplinary team with all processes related to patient care.
  • Delegates responsibilities to staff based on patient needs and staff competencies.
  • Utilizes and documents patient safety restraints per hospital policy.
  • Performs all IV skills including starts according to unit policy.
  • Documents medications on medication administration record (MAR).
  • Maintains awareness of patient's response to medications and reports appropriately.
  • Reports medication errors and adverse reactions per hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates knowledge concerning medications, including side effects.
  • Maintains monitoring of blood and blood products.
  • Develops plan based on educational assessment.
  • Provides patients with discharge instructions/education and facilitates a safe discharge.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Practical or Vocational Nursing Program.
  • Current Florida licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire.
  • IV Therapy Certificate within three months of hire.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement practices.

Qualifications

  • One year experience in an acute care setting OR three years of long-term care experience.
  • Previous Emergency Department experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement practices.
