Duties And Responsibilities

• Provides safe, accurate, and clinically competent direct care to patients and their families.
• Maintains wait periods for patients in the waiting room and communicates with patients accordingly.
• Recognizes and interprets patient symptoms or urgent problems and seeks appropriate assistance.
• Aids in remedial measures as ordered.
• Completes a thorough history and physical on new patients, assisting them in completing forms if needed.
• Documents all nursing areas in the electronic medical record (EMR) accurately.
• Assists with medical procedures and treatments such as ear irrigation, pelvic exams, minor surgeries, dressings, injections, EKGs, etc., preparing the patient and exam room as needed.
• Communicates with patients about diagnosis or prevention education, providing instruction or referring them as directed by the provider.
• Documents patient education in the EMR and on encounter forms for reporting purposes.
• Completes nursing medication procedures in the EMR according to time, site, location, medication dosage, and route for the provider.
• Triage incoming calls from patients and handles them appropriately, documenting in the EMR and/or communication with the provider.
• Demonstrates patient advocacy ensuring patient rights to privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
• Understands HIPAA requirements and conducts clinical/business processes that prioritize patient privacy.
• Performs pediatric and/or adult immunizations according to the immunization schedule and provider direction, documenting all immunizations in the EMR and updating the GRITS system.
• Monitors inventory levels of immunizations and requisitions as instructed.
• Performs phlebotomy and waive sing procedures using skilled techniques following established policies and procedures.
• Reminds providers to review current medications for additional prescription refills as noted in the EMR.
• Explain the Medicare Waiver of Liability form to patients if applicable, ensuring they understand the implications and sign the form.
• Maintains, cleans, sterilizes equipment, stocks examination rooms, orders or lists supplies needed, reports malfunctioning equipment, refrigerators logs, collects/disposes of hazardous waste daily.
• Maintains a variety of education materials in exam rooms and stock area based on education committee recommendations.
• Uses TIGER as a resource for patient scheduling and patient demographic data.
• Makes referrals at providers' direction using the computer/log to document the referral.
• Provides timely feedback to providers if appointments are not kept.
• Accurately documents all messages in the EMR; sends messages to providers promptly; ensures patients have a return call regarding their request or concern.
• Notifies patients of lab results within 14 days of the provider receiving the results, using the Televox Labcall system or contacting by phone or card notification.
• Attends meetings as requested and participates in in-service programs and skills fairs.
• Available to cover any clinic site as necessary.
• Supports AAPHC's goals for patient care by promoting walk-in patients being seen by the providers and identifying barriers to their supervisor.
• Demonstrate age-specific competencies that will be evaluated through direct observation and QI process (information from chart reviews, patient/peer/physician feedback, variance reports, and other mechanisms as indicated).

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Current Georgia license.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Knowledge of computers helpful.
• At least one year of nursing experience preferred.
