Job Summary
Join our team at Center for Behavioral Health Osage Beach as an Intake Specialist. We are seeking a passionate Intake Specialist to improve behavioral health in your community.
About the Role
We provide psychiatric care to patients requiring inpatient hospitalization due to mental health issues. This role involves weekends only.
Responsibilities
- Reviews information on all referrals for medical necessity and level of care criteria as well as medical stability.
- Aids in presenting information to providers for admission decisions.
- Reviews and enters medications for patients being admitted.
- Begins the admission process for selected patients, including skin assessments and nursing assessments.
- Takes admission orders from providers.
- Keeps family and referral sources informed of decision-making.
- Recommends other resources when necessary.
- Introduces patients to the staff and gives a thorough hand-off to the receiving nurse.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory agencies, insurance companies, State/Federal requirements, and ensures host facilities standards are maintained.
- Completes required monthly reports and communicates effectively with management.
- Operates in an ethical manner in dealing with referral sources, patients, families, and external agencies.
- Provides input into the system for monitoring and improving inquiry calls.
- Identifies, reports, or corrects variables affecting the quality of services provided to patients/families and referring/inquiring agencies.
- Participates in the Hospital’s quality improvement process and utilization review as required.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing or a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field.
- Training: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field.
- Utilization Review and Insurance Authorization Preferred.
- Experience: One-year experience working in a similar position, or one year of clinical experience with the primary population served by the program.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of regulatory agencies, insurance companies, State/Federal requirements, and host facilities standards.
- Working knowledge of best practice protocols for mental health treatment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with referral sources, patients, families, and external agencies.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
