About the role
We are seeking a passionate Intake Specialist to join our team at Center for Behavioral Health Osage Beach. Our goal is to improve behavioral health in the community through collaboration with healthcare providers and families.
Responsibilities
- Reviews information on all referrals for medical necessity and level of care criteria as well as medical stability.
- Aids in presenting information to providers for admission decisions.
- Reviews and enters medications for patients being admitted.
- Begins the admission process for selected patients, including skin assessments and nursing assessments.
- Takes admission orders from providers and informs family and referral sources of decision-making.
- Recommends additional resources when necessary.
- Introduces patients to the unit staff and conducts a thorough handoff to the receiving nurse.
- Keeps family and referral sources informed of the admission process.
- May accompany patients to the unit.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory agencies, insurance companies, State/Federal requirements, and ensures compliance with host facility standards.
- Completes required monthly reports and communicates effectively with management.
- Operates ethically in interactions with referral sources, patients, families, and external agencies.
- Provides input into the system for monitoring and improving inquiry calls.
- Identifies, reports, or corrects variables affecting the quality of services provided to patients/families and referring/inquiring agencies.
- Participates in the Hospital’s quality improvement process and utilization review as required.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor or Associate Degree from an accredited school of Nursing, or a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field.
- Training: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field.
- Utilization Review and insurance authorization preferred.
- Experience: One-year experience working in a similar position, or one year of clinical experience with the primary population served by the program.

- Knowledge of regulatory agencies, insurance companies, State/Federal requirements, and host facility standards.
- Working knowledge of current, research-based Best Practice protocols.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
