Lower School Faculty - Historic Downtown Campus

About the role

The Lower School Classroom Teacher plays a pivotal role in shaping the foundational years of learning for students from kindergarten through fifth grade. You will build a classroom community where curiosity thrives, and every child feels seen and valued. Working in a self-contained K–5 setting alongside specialist teachers, you will guide students through core subjects using research-backed curricula such as Reveal Math and Wit & Wisdom, incorporating differentiated and hands-on learning to make content engaging and memorable. This role focuses on knowing each student—their strengths, questions, and growth areas—and partnering with families to celebrate their progress. Your trimester narrative reports will tell the story of each child's journey, not just fulfill a requirement.

Responsibilities

• Create and nurture a classroom environment where curiosity and belonging are prioritized.
• Teach core subjects using rich, research-backed curricula with a focus on differentiated and hands-on learning.
• Develop deep relationships with students to understand their individual strengths, questions, and areas for growth.
• Collaborate with specialist teachers and families to support each child's learning and development.
• Write trimester narrative reports that thoughtfully document each student's progress and journey.
• Embrace a student-centered, inquiry-driven approach to learning that balances warmth and rigor.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Proven experience teaching elementary-aged students in a classroom setting.
• Deep commitment to inclusive, student-centered, and inquiry-driven learning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a genuine joy for partnering with families.
• Collaborative spirit, growth mindset, and openness to feedback and coaching.
• Experience in independent, progressive, or mission-driven school environments is preferred.

Candidates offered a position will be required to provide the following clearances before their first day of work: FBI Fingerprint Check, PA Criminal Background Check (PA State Police), Child Abuse Clearance Check, Act 24 affidavit, Act 168 feedback from previous employers, and proof of a negative TB test.
