Loom Maintenance Mechanic

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Repairs mechanical malfunctions on flagged looms, starts up new creels and performs scheduled preventive maintenance work.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • * Repairs looms as flagged by weaver or inspector.
  • * Patrols looms to detect problems.
  • * Performs preventive maintenance.
  • * Performs weaver job when required.
  • * Perform rapier head inspections
  • * Perform feathered edge checks
  • * Check and replace rapier cutters as needed
  • * Perform hot melt unit checks
  • * Enter repair and set-up data into LDMS system
  • * Responsible for general housekeeping in the assigned area
  • * Observe all plant and company safety rules.
  • * Perform other duties as assigned by Plant Manager, Supervisor or Process Engineer.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

  • A High School diploma as defined by company policy or GED.
  • Must have been previously qualified as a weaver.
  • Must successfully complete requirements for industrial truck license.
  • Must have taken and scored at least in the 50 percentile on the Bennett's Mechanical Comprehension Test.

ENVIRONMENTAL/SAFETY RISK REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent contact with carbon, fly, binder, size, oil, safety solvent, greases, oils, etc.
  • May be required to wear eye protection, gloves, protective clothing in performance of certain tasks.
  • Annual audiogram or as required by Company policy.
  • Hearing protection as required in posted areas in the plant.
  • Must follow all safety rules including but not limited to lockout/tagout, wearing personal protective equipment, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Standing - 7-8 hours per 8 hour shift on concrete floor.
  • Sitting - As required to perform maintenance on lower level of machine (depends on nature of problems and may be up to 6 hours/8 hour shift).
  • Moving - Randomly investigates problems of looms, patrols loom operation on assigned set approximately 8 times/8 hour shift, correcting malfunctions. Moves between machines spaced as close as 18" apart. Secures, transports disassembled/replacement loom parts.
  • Climbing - As required to reach upper levels of weaving machine, using stepladder.
  • Lifting - Lifting disassembled/replacement loom parts weighing up to 80 pounds, (Assistance required for lifting over 50 lbs.). Lifting is done randomly.
  • Pushing/Pulling - Pushing/Pulling to transport tools/equipment carts to loom. Align/reinstall machine parts, may require 2 people.
  • Reaching - Must be able to reach through 3 body zones all around body. Secures tools to reach small enclosed loom areas to service a loom.
  • Visual Acuity - Minimum 20/40 corrected distance and 20/30 corrected near vision.
  • Bending/Stooping - Bend approx. 75-100 times per shift. Squat to floor level approx. 15-20 times per shift. May require lying on floor to work beneath loom.
  • Hearing & Speaking - As needed to communicate.
  • Other - Align and reinstall machine parts, may require 2 people on some jobs.
