Long Term Sub: Upper School History Teacher
Friends Select School is seeking a 10th Grade Upper School history teacher to cover a quarter-long leave from September 8, 2026 to November 20, 2026.
About the role
The position includes teaching three sections of 10th grade Modern World History II and one section of Introduction to Psychology, a senior elective course. The ideal candidate will take a friendly and collaborative approach to teaching in order to create an inclusive learning environment for all students.
Responsibilities
- Teach the assigned sections and potentially lead an advisory and/or a club
- Prepare for classes, including grading homework and assessments and posting work on the school's LMS
- Meet with students when they need extra help and communicate home for persistent struggles
- Communicate with the guidance team and families about students who need additional support
- Maintain and update Blackbaud (the school’s LMS) for each class
- Write end-of-quarter narrative comments
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in history or a related subject
- Experience teaching history, preferably for grades 9-12
- Experience and proficiency using a Learning Management System (Blackbaud preferred)
