Long-Term Grassroots Organizer: Community Health and Environmentalism

About the role

Clean Water Action is a non-profit focusing on campaigns related to water quality, holding polluters accountable, and environmental injustice. With 100,000 members in Pennsylvania and over half a million members nationwide, Clean Water Action is at the forefront of grassroots efforts to protect our communities, public health, and the environment. Recent victories include unanimously passing a statewide ban on PFAS in firefighting foam, passing the Philadelphia Plastic Bag Ban, and winning the lawsuit against Trump's EPA in 2019.

We are hiring full-time and part-time Grassroots Organizers in Philadelphia, PA to join our Field Canvass team. Current campaigns include safeguarding communities from AI data centers, banning PFAS from household products, and uplifting communities experiencing environmental injustices. As a Grassroots Organizer, you will canvass communities around these vital issues through grassroots organizing. This is an in-person position; relocation assistance is not provided. COVID-19 vaccination is highly encouraged for all applicants.

Responsibilities

• One-on-one communication with community members
• Fundraising
• Collecting calls-to-action addressed to lawmakers (e.g., petitions, phone calls, and handwritten letters)
• Dispersing information
• Accurate record keeping

• Passion for environmental issues and nonprofit work
• Strong face-to-face communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Cultural competence and commitment to racial justice and equity
• Interest in non-profit or campaign work, policy, or politics
• Enjoy connecting with people as part of daily work
• Motivated to make real change on environmental issues

Extensive training on job responsibilities and issues covered is provided.

Schedule

Hours: 2 pm to 9 pm

• Full-time: Monday through Friday
• Part-time: 3 or 4 weekdays

Pay

$21 per hour plus performance bonus opportunities.
