Long-Term Grassroots Organizer: Community Health and Corporate Accountability
Clean Water Action is a non-profit focusing on campaigns related to water quality, holding polluters accountable, and environmental justice. With 100,000 members in Pennsylvania and over half a million members nationwide, Clean Water Action leads grassroots efforts to protect communities, public health, and the environment. Recent victories include passing a State House Bill to ban PFAS from firefighting foam, enacting the Philadelphia Plastic Bag Ban, and winning a lawsuit against Trump's EPA in 2019.
About the role
Clean Water Action is hiring full-time and part-time Grassroots Organizers in Philadelphia, PA to join our Field Canvass team. This in-person role involves canvassing communities on vital issues such as safeguarding communities from AI data centers, banning PFAS from household products, and uplifting Environmental Justice communities. The position offers hands-on experience in grassroots advocacy, community organizing, and public policy while making a tangible impact.
Responsibilities
- One-on-one communication with community members
- Fundraising and collecting calls-to-action addressed to lawmakers (e.g., petitions, phone calls, handwritten letters)
- Disseminating information about key issues
- Accurate record keeping

- Strong face-to-face communication skills
- Attention to detail and cultural competence
- Commitment to racial justice and equity
- Interest in non-profit, campaign work, policy, or politics
- Enjoy connecting with people as part of daily work
- Motivation to create real change on environmental issues
Extensive on-the-job training is provided for responsibilities and issue coverage.
Schedule
- Full-time: Monday through Friday, 2 pm to 9 pm
- Part-time: 3 or 4 weekdays, 2 pm to 9 pm
This is a fully in-person position in Philadelphia, PA. Relocation assistance is not provided.
Pay
$21 per hour with bonus opportunities.
