About the role
The Certified Nursing Assistant – Long Term Care at MercyOne Centerville Medical Center supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct resident care. Duties may vary by shift or unit.
Responsibilities
- Delivers assigned resident care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
- Provides direct care to adult and geriatric long-term care residents, supervising and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed while promoting independence.
- Performs or assists residents with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
- Safely ambulates residents who are able, reporting to the charge nurse or supervisor when ambulation becomes difficult or unsafe.
- Responds to resident calls and anticipates resident needs.
- Affirms resident safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
- Calculates intake and output. Measures vital signs. Makes entries to resident health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
- Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting resident from injury).
- Performs post-mortem care.
- Prepares residents and rooms for admissions and transfers.
- Observes and reports information regarding any change in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the resident to the nurse.
- Collects and labels specimens.
Requirements
- Must be 16 years old.
- Certified Nurse Aide certification with a minimum of 75 hours training.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Knowledge of long-term care principles and practices.
