About the role

The Certified Nursing Assistant – Long Term Care at MercyOne Centerville Medical Center supports the professional clinical staff by providing direct resident care. Duties may vary by shift or unit.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers assigned resident care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
  • Provides direct care to adult and geriatric long-term care residents, supervising and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed while promoting independence.
  • Performs or assists residents with activities including personal hygiene, bathing, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
  • Safely ambulates residents who are able, reporting to the charge nurse or supervisor when ambulation becomes difficult or unsafe.
  • Responds to resident calls and anticipates resident needs.
  • Affirms resident safety and comfort through use of safe patient handling techniques, regular rounding, environmental maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other appropriate safety measures.
  • Calculates intake and output. Measures vital signs. Makes entries to resident health records as consistent with scope of job duties and in compliance with company policy.
  • Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting resident from injury).
  • Performs post-mortem care.
  • Prepares residents and rooms for admissions and transfers.
  • Observes and reports information regarding any change in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the resident to the nurse.
  • Collections and labels specimens.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years old.
  • Certified Nurse Aide certification with a minimum of 75 hours training.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant program.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of long-term care principles and practices.

Schedule

Rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Schedule 12-hours; weekend shifts; Friday, Saturday and Sunday; 10:00 P - 10:00 A or 6 P - 6 A.
