About the role
As a Certified Nursing Assistant – Long Term Care at MercyOne, you will support the professional clinical staff by providing direct resident care. Duties may vary by shift or unit and include working rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (10:00 PM – 10:00 AM or 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM)
- Weekend shifts: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Included in holiday rotation
Responsibilities
- Deliver assigned resident care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
- Provide direct care to adult and geriatric long-term care residents, assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs) while promoting independence.
- Perform or assist residents with personal hygiene, bathing, transporting, range of motion exercises, dressing/undressing, feeding, changing bandages, elimination needs, and emptying drainage devices.
- Safely ambulate residents who are able, reporting difficulties to the charge nurse or supervisor.
- Respond to resident calls and anticipate resident needs, ensuring safety and comfort through safe patient handling, regular rounding, and environmental maintenance.
- Calculate intake and output, measure vital signs, and document entries in resident health records per scope of duties and policy.
- Initiate or assist with emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting resident from injury).
- Perform post-mortem care.
- Prepare residents and rooms for admissions and transfers.
- Observe and report changes in physical/mental condition, behavior, or status of the resident to the nurse.
- Collect and label specimens.
- Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Certified Nurse Aide certification with a minimum of 75 hours of training.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six (6) weeks of hire.
