Logistics Supervisor
Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, Start Time 11:00am
About the role
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for administering programs, policies, and procedures for the Logistics Department, including scheduling, routing, and assignments of drivers and vehicles. This position will submit recommendations for the development of, and compliance with, logistics/transportation programs, policies, and procedures. The Logistics Supervisor plans, directs, and implements vehicle scheduling, allocation, dispatching, licensing, and communication functions in accordance with established policies. The role conducts continuous analyses of vehicle and driver assignments to identify efficiencies and consolidation opportunities. This position communicates and coordinates with material and service providers (e.g., collision repair, fuel, maintenance, tires, fleet wash) to ensure fleet compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) standards. Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for assigned staff within the logistics department.
- Work with leadership to develop, implement, and enforce policies, processes, and objectives, including administering corrective actions.
- Monitor Logistics operations to ensure drivers comply with company rules, safety procedures, government regulations, and evaluations.
- Hold professional drivers accountable for their responsibilities and desired outcomes.
- Investigate, verify, and resolve customer complaints.
- Supervise material and service providers performing repairs and maintenance on company vehicles.
- Conduct periodic yard checks of properties where company equipment is staged or stored.
- Review and analyze reports (e.g., Driver Trip Reports, Metrics) for trends and recommend changes.
- Utilize available software to identify trends and make data-driven recommendations.
- Supervise dispatching routes for incoming donations, backhauls, line hauls, and deliveries to customers; coordinate daily routing with the Logistics Router.
- Organize and facilitate weekly huddles with Lead Drivers and schedule quarterly meetings.
- Ensure Lead Drivers hold daily huddles before the start of every shift and logs are kept of attendance and topics.
- Conduct staff performance reviews and address disciplinary actions in a timely manner.
- Conduct driver training in accordance with DOT and Houston Food Bank (HFB) regulations; maintain training files.
- Maintain fleet maintenance files in compliance with DOT and HFB regulations.
- Promote staff development within the logistics department.
- Support other areas (e.g., Warehouse) by being cross-trained to ensure business continuity, including working Saturdays as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage one or more direct reports by providing guidance and oversight to employees and/or contractors.
- Develop and maintain roles, responsibilities, and expectations.
- Practice performance management to support employee development and perform administrative duties associated with people management.
- Interview, plan, assign, and direct work; resolve problems.
- Sponsor and participate in or support project teams led by other management team members.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school; Associate degree preferred.
- 2+ years of supervisory/management experience.
- 3+ years of experience in Logistics or a related field.
- Must obtain a Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.
- 3 years of clean, violation-free Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in a commercial vehicle.
- Must pass the Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical.
- Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.
Skills
- Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, traffic rules, DOT regulations, and vehicle maintenance.
- Experience with tracking and dispatch software (e.g., Samsara).
- Ability to learn new software systems, smartphones, and driver apps.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate a liftgate, manual and electric pallet jack.
- Ability to maintain records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.
- Strong customer service skills and willingness to assist others.

Physical Requirements
- Daily analysis and interpretation of data, communication, and remaining in a standing or stationary position for a significant portion of the workday.
- Frequent use of computers and office productivity devices.
- Regular movement around the office and facility; use of hands, wrists, and fingers for gripping, typing, and writing.
- Average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse environment.
- Occasional travel to other sites for business.
- Frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds; occasional lift/move of up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
- Primarily performed in an enclosed office environment.
- Occasional exposure to freezers, enclosed/tight spaces, wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals, strong food-related smells, and outdoor weather conditions.
- Office environment is typically quiet, but occasional exposure to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).
Travel
Travel is required (up to 10% of the time) to and from different locations within an 18-county service area. This role supports all hours of operation at Houston Food Bank facilities as necessary and requires a flexible work schedule. Must be legally able to work in the United States.
