Logistics Supervisor
Job Overview
The Logistics Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating domestic and international air, sea and land logistics operations to ensure on-time, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods. This role provides day-to-day leadership to the logistics team, manages relationships with carriers and freight forwarders, and drives continuous improvement in logistics processes, systems, and vendor performance.
Responsibilities
- Supervises daily activities of logistics specialists, providing guidance, training, and coaching feedback.
- Led the planning and execution of cost efficient domestic and international shipments, including routing, mode selection, consolidation, and carrier assignment.
- Ensures compliant export and import documentation for all shipments.
- Maintains monitoring of shipment status and resolves delays, discrepancies, or service failures.
- Manages relationships with freight forwarders and transportation providers.
- Solicits, reviews, and negotiates quotes to achieve cost savings and service improvements.
- Evaluates carrier performance and recommends provider improvements or changes.
- Ensures adherence to trade compliance, DOT, IATA, IMDG, and other regulatory requirements.
- Leads continuous improvement initiatives to optimize shipping efficiency, reduce costs, and improve accuracy.
Skills/Requirements
- 5+ years of logistics experience with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Experience managing domestic and international shipments by road, ocean, and air, including cost/benefit analysis of transport modes.
- Working knowledge of import/export documentation and customs processes for commercial goods; strong compliance mindset.
- Hands-on experience with an ERP system such as Oracle, SAP, or MS Dynamics.
- Will be required to pass DG DOT/IATA/IMDG certification within 90 days of employment if not current holder of DG certification.
