Logistics Safety Manager

About the Role

The Logistics Safety Manager plays a multifaceted and vital role in ensuring the success of Pratt Logistics, LLC operations. This position is responsible for ensuring drivers are well trained, equipment is compliant, and all operations adhere to local and federal regulations. The role focuses on maintaining a safe environment for everyone on the roadway, protecting Pratt’s staff, assets, and reputation.

Responsibilities

• Enforce and manage safety policies
• Develop and educate on safety policies
• Conduct periodic safety inspections of facilities
• Ensure regulatory compliance
• Facilitate quarterly safety training and driver meetings
• Monitor safety performance across all controlled, non-controlled, and mills
• Perform vehicle maintenance inspections (Level 2)
• Analyze and identify areas of improvement in accidents, inspections, and citations; report data to operations and the Director of Safety
• Conduct risk assessments and communicate challenges and trends to operations
• Educate operations on new compliance and DOT regulation changes
• Serve as a Motive Expert to ensure driver scores are 90 or better
• Support Smith System Training as a Certified Smith System Driver Trainer
• File DataQs for non-preventable accidents and incorrect violations
• Maintain the DOT Accident Register
• Facilitate DOT visits to plants
• Provide coaching and development during DOT roadside inspections
• Conduct PPE audits for locations and drivers
• Perform ride-along observations with drivers
• Manage technology proficiency regarding Motive, Sentix, TWM, and Foley
• Participate in weekly new hire orientation
• Pilot programs and evaluate new technologies (e.g., Motive, Drivewyze)
• Implement and manage Safety Committees for drivers and dispatchers
• Support other regions and safety department staff during vacations or absences
• Facilitate and evaluate training for new drivers, dispatchers, and logistics managers
• Work with site managers, HR, and dispatchers on driver coaching or corrective actions
• Perform special projects or other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Working knowledge of CFR 29 and CFR 49
• 5 years’ experience in the transportation industry in a safety role
• Knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations (DOT, DMV, FMCSA, and OSHA)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude
• Ability to work independently and complete assignments within prescribed routines and standard practices

Schedule

1st shift with frequent travel required to locations in the region on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Occasional travel to other regions may be needed.

• Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles when in the field or locations
• Regularly required to walk, talk, and hear
• Frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms
• Occasionally required to sit
• May occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 to 30 pounds
