About the role

In this position, you will lead the logistics team in unloading raw materials, loading all final products, and the movement of trucks and rail cars on the plant site. This role ensures maximum production quantity and quality while supporting company policies, goals, and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead the logistics team by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training team members.
  • Perform supervisory activities including delegation, training, career development, coaching, and performance management to execute departmental strategies and support company objectives.
  • Operate all department equipment, including rail loader, skid loader, front loader, locomotive, and other industrial equipment.
  • Operate locomotives; interpret train orders, signals, rules, and regulations; transport freight; and ensure timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including environmental, safety, and railroad regulations.
  • Communicate with schedulers, drivers, customers, and the Production Manager to assure timely loading of multiple ethanol specs, DDGS, Wet Distilled Grain, and other finished products to accommodate car deliveries and pickups.
  • Ensure all equipment used to load distillers, ethanol, and weigh grading grain is in proper operating condition and initiate repairs as needed, including scales, front-end loader, track mobile, hand tools, and associated electronic equipment.
  • Set up and dispatch shipments with company drivers.
  • Maintain a working understanding of FSMA, FRA, OSHA, and DOT applicable regulations.
  • Supervise drivers and manage the utilization of equipment.
  • Accurately complete data entry and reporting.
  • Provide input for revision of policies and procedures and continuously improve safety and efficient operations to enhance customer service results.
  • Control the application of Green Plains Inc. safety and environmental policies; measure, detect variances, and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties to maintain a clean and tour-ready work environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent degree required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in plant logistics preferred.
  • Ability to meet all requirements to safely operate machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge working with Windows, Excel, etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable regulatory requirements of FRA, TTB, FSMA, state, and federal regulations.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, heeled boots, and hearing protection).
  • Frequent sitting, computer use, telephone use, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage confined space entry, climb ladders and steps, lift up to 60 lbs, and work at heights.
  • Regular exposure to mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise environment, outside weather in all conditions, and chemicals used in the process.
