Logistics Coordinator, Operations

About the Role
The Logistics Coordinator has general responsibility for coordinating and overseeing all operational activities assigned daily. Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Logistics Coordinator oversees associates dedicated to warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in a manner consistent with company service and cost objectives. Associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality while complying with all corporate and site-specific policies.
Responsibilities
- Training Responsibilities:
- Mentor and train new and existing associates in specific distribution activities to meet customer demands.
- Train associates on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for shipping, receiving, picking, and quality control.
- Assist in forklift operation and certification for new and existing associates.
- Shipping/Receiving Responsibilities:
- Oversee and coordinate unloading of inbound shipments, stacking of product, and picking/staging of outbound shipments for maximum productivity.
- Verify inbound/outbound paperwork with drivers, ensuring accurate product counts.
- Load orders efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers.
- Process shipping, receiving, and picking functions per SOPs.
- Research discrepancies in the shipping and receiving process.
- Customer Service:
- Maintain professional appearance and communication at all times.
- Communicate with customers via phone, electronically, or in person.
- Prepare accurate and efficient activity reports for site management.
- Quality Control Responsibilities:
- Use appropriate documentation to ensure correct receipt, shipment, and picking of products/orders.
- Verify products/orders meet quality standards; report damages or discrepancies.
- Stack, package, shrink wrap, and label products per SOPs.
- Report inconsistencies or problems to the Operations Supervisor or Manager.
- Participate in quality meetings.
- Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:
- Comply with relevant ISO standards impacting the position, department, and company.
- Execute all safety protocols and accomplish tasks in a safe manner.
- Maintain cleanliness of the warehouse and work area; assist in warehouse security.
- Adhere to SOPs, corporate/site-specific policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards.
- Participate in safety meetings.
- Labor Management:
- Direct warehouse work teams to achieve prescribed objectives.
- Assist associates and temporary labor with productivity sheets and accurate capture of production/payroll hours.
- Assist the Supervisor in maintaining a productive workforce and establishing work schedules.
- Ensure schedules are correctly implemented and jobs are assigned effectively.
- Support the Operations Supervisor in ensuring associates handle products according to quality procedures.
- Responsibility and Authority:
- Participate in department meetings.
- Initiate actions to prevent non-conformities in product, process, or quality system.
- Identify, record, and recommend solutions for problems relating to product, process, or quality system.
- Report non-conformities immediately to the Quality Department.
- Equipment Operation:
- Operate equipment such as sit-down, stand-up, reach truck, sweeper scrubber, scissor lift, cherry picker, Aisle Master, or pallet jack.
- Responsible for equipment upkeep and reporting problems.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on equipment daily.
- Maintain active forklift certification.
- Maintenance:
- Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned.
- Other Duties:
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks (e.g., answering phones, scheduling, filing, record keeping).
- Work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Work overtime as dictated by business needs (mandatory or voluntary).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in logistics, distribution, or a relevant environment.
- Ability to operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
- Satisfactory completion of a forklift training program.
Skills
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with RF scanners and WMS functions.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, verbal).
- Basic to intermediate math skills for verifying quantities, counting inventory, etc.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy; ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision or guidance.
- Effective communication and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or distribution environment.
- 2-4 years of proven forklift experience.
- Current or prior MHE certification.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally: Hand and finger manipulation, sitting, handling product/packaging materials.
- Frequently: Bending.
- Constantly: Walking and standing.
- Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 21-50 pounds.
- Reach above shoulder, outward, squat, or kneel.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is rarely exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
Pay
For this position, the expected base pay range is $26.00 – $26.00 hourly. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location.
