Purpose of the Position
The Electrician is responsible for inspecting, servicing, troubleshooting, and maintaining diesel locomotive electrical systems in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment. This role ensures all work is completed in compliance with regulatory and company standards. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, highly detail-oriented, and excels at complex electrical diagnostics and problem-solving.
Position Accountabilities
- Maintain, inspect, test and repair all systems on diesel locomotives
- Electrical modifications and upgrades to locomotive systems
- Diagnostics trouble shooting with onboard computer systems/laptops
- Complete work in accordance with blueprints, schematic drawings and service manuals
- Other duties as required as per collective agreement
Position Requirements
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- Journeyman Electrician is preferred, will consider those with diesel electrical experience or electrical experience and training with other types of machinery/truck or automotive
- Ability to follow electrical schematics is a definite asset
- Available to work all types of shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays in all weather conditions
- Ability to pass the required written examinations, read and understand safety instructions, rules, regulations and other written or printed material in English
- Dedication to safety and ability to complete work within guidelines/rules
