Locomotive Electrician
Your future role
You’ll ensure the reliability and safety of our locomotives and passenger coaches by performing inspections, diagnostics, and repairs in line with OEM, FRA, DOT, and Alstom standards. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, manage work orders using our asset management system, and contribute to the seamless operation of our rail services.
You’ll specifically take care of electrical troubleshooting, system diagnostics, and component repairs, but also support train movements and perform modifications based on technical drawings.
We’ll look to you for:
- Troubleshooting and repairing locomotive electrical and train control systems
- Performing diagnostics using microprocessor and diagnostic tools
- Installing and maintaining electrical wiring and equipment, including PLCs
- Executing modifications from electrical schematics and blueprints
- Managing work orders in the asset management database
- Operating locomotives and passenger coaches as part of a team
- Ensuring compliance with FRA and Alstom safety standards
- Supporting additional duties as per union agreement

- A High School diploma or GED
- 4+ years of experience as an electrician in an industrial setting
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints and circuit schematics
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook)
Preferred:
- Journeyman or Master Electrician certification
- Familiarity with railroad operations and safety standards

Qualifications
