Local Pile Driver (South Louisiana and Surrounding Area)

This position supports field operations at marine project locations for Orion Gulf Coast, specifically in the Southern Louisiana area (Lake Charles and Baton Rouge). The role involves working closely with the Project Superintendent, Barge Foreman, Pile Driver Operator, Welders, Boat Captain, Laborers, and other skilled or semi-skilled crafts persons.

Responsibilities

• Works as assigned by the Barge Foreman and/or Pile Driver Operator to ensure successful completion of marine construction projects.
• Assists in unloading and assembling crane or other hoisting equipment for piledriving activities.
• Unloads and assembles piledriving hammer and leads.
• Unloads various types of piling: concrete, pipe, H-piling, timber, and steel sheet piling.
• Fuels, lubricates, and maintains the piledriving hammer.
• Lays out piling locations from blueprints and/or site plans.
• Performs site preparation for installation of concrete and wood structures.
• Prepares piling for driving and assists in positioning and driving.
• Assists with installation of boom and hoisting cables on equipment.
• Employs construction rigging techniques (slings, cable chokers, spreader bars, multi-part load blocks) for crane hoisting tasks.
• Uses hand signals to communicate with the Pile Driver Operator for safe load maneuvering.
• Sets up power and hand tools to prepare pilings.
• Uses oxygen/acetylene welding torch to cut steel plates, pipes, and beams.
• Operates pneumatic power tools (drills, countersinks, tuggers) as required.
• Uses gasoline chain saw to cut timbers and timber piling.
• Dresses and caps pilings after driving and prepares them for superstructure.
• Builds formwork for concrete structures and constructs timber falsework.
• Performs other piledriving duties as required by specific projects.
• Collaborates with Pile Driver Operator, Barge Foreman, Welders, Laborers, and other crafts to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives to ensure compliance with State/Federal regulations and improve Company programs.

Requirements

• A minimum of two (2) years of crane rigging and/or operations experience on land and on barges, or equivalent combination of experience and training providing the necessary piledriving and crane operations skills.
