Local Contract SLP - $63 per hour

Local contract position in Waterville, ME for a Speech Language Pathologist. Assignment starts 09/21/2026, lasts 12 weeks, 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts (08:00 AM – 04:30 PM). Minimum 40-hour guarantee.

About the Role

The Speech Language Pathologist will primarily provide outpatient rehabilitation services in an in-home setting for the older adult population. Settings include private residences, assisted living facilities, or independent living facilities. The role focuses on evaluating and treating patients in their home environment to facilitate rehabilitation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure and professional standards.
• Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, including timely clinical and billing documentation and attendance at work-related meetings.
• Attend and contribute to patient care and staffing conferences.
• Make referrals to other disciplines or agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
• Consult with rehabilitation team members and physicians to develop appropriate therapeutic regimens based on patient needs and capabilities.
• Adapt programs or care plans to meet individual patient needs.
• Promote a safe environment and enforce fire and safety hazard elimination.
• Order, clean, maintain, and report equipment needs.
• Prioritize patient service, ensuring residents and families receive high-quality care in a compassionate atmosphere.
• Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of tests and measures to establish a diagnosis and plan of care.
• Develop treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and caregivers, implement the plan, and document all related services.
• Provide therapeutic techniques in areas such as:
  • Cognitive-communication
  • Speech intelligibility
  • Oral motor skills
  • Swallowing disorders/dysphagia
  • Perceptual abilities
  • Orientation and memory
  • Pragmatics and psychosocial expression
  • Functional communication
  • Case management in home and community settings
• Coordinate the acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in their use.
• Identify hearing deficits and refer patients for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, or personal amplification.
• Select activities suited to patients' physical and mental capacities, intelligence levels, and interests.
• Instruct patients in skills and techniques for therapeutic activities and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior.
• Perform routine reexaminations to modify or progress the treatment plan as needed.
• Coordinate care in home and community settings with interdisciplinary team members and referring physicians.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Valid Speech Language Pathologist license in the state(s) of practice or proof of license eligibility.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or eligibility to participate as an ASHA Clinical Fellow.
• Valid driver’s license or reliable, independent transportation to and from patients’ residences.

• Report concerns or suspected incidences of non-compliance to a supervisor, Compliance Liaison, or the Compliance Officer via the Integrity Hotline.
• Cooperate with monitoring, audit functions, and investigations.
• Participate in quality assurance and process improvement activities as requested.
