About the role
The Loan Workout Team Leader manages a staff of workout officers and provides guidance in managing their respective portfolios, while directly managing a workout portfolio consisting primarily of complex litigation matters.
Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned workout officers and support staff.
- Guide workout officers in managing their portfolios by reviewing proposed courses of action, facts, and considerations, and suggesting alternate approaches where appropriate.
- Maintain a workout portfolio of complex litigation matters involving loans with substantial balances, difficult-to-evaluate collateral, or real property burdened with multiple tenants, past-due taxes, tax liens, or environmental issues.
- Restructure problem loans by implementing amortization plans or forbearance agreements based on the borrower's ability to repay, the Bank's legal position, and potential recovery from collateral or guarantors.
- Seek alternative means of loan repayment through foreclosure or collateral liquidation when legal remedies are likely to result in greater recovery.
- Reduce the overall risk associated with Special Assets credits.
- Guide outside counsel in collection strategy to maximize recovery, including discussing legal avenues and expectations, and proposing options in response to developments.
- Analyze financial statements, loan documents, and collateral to determine the best collection route based on legal strength, available remedies, and borrower cooperation.
- Make recommendations to senior management regarding risk ratings, interest accrual, and loan write-downs or charge-offs.
- Review, analyze, and correct structural or documentation deficiencies, and monitor the Bank's collateral position or liquidation.
- Maintain frequent interaction with senior management regarding the status of problem loans.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of 8 years of related work experience involving regular interaction with outside counsel in workout or commercial litigation matters for CRE, C-I, and ABL credits.
- Supervisory experience, including managing direct reports.
Skills
- Proficient understanding of the legal process related to foreclosure and recovery of commercial loans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Developed supervisory skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and delegate assignments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- High level of interpersonal and social skills.
- Good mathematical skills.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree.
