About the Role
Merchants Bank has an opening for a Compliance Officer. This on-site position can work from any of our Merchants Bank branch locations in Minnesota or Wisconsin. The role provides leadership for the Compliance function by conducting research, working with various systems, and collaborating with team members. The Compliance Officer will supervise the Compliance Specialist and serve as the company CRA Officer. Some travel is required.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision and leadership for the Compliance Specialist to ensure personnel growth and meet all expectations of the Company’s Compliance Program.
- Manage relationships and work through all Compliance Audits, including external audits and exams: send out request lists, gather and index documents, collaborate with external Auditors/Examiners, review draft reports, train employees on findings, and track completion of actions.
- Review Fair Lending audit RATA reports and conduct research to ensure no fair lending issues.
- Serve as the company CRA Officer: manage CRA communication, preparation, review, and exams; maintain public file, volunteer hours, donations, investments, maps, community development loans, etc.; complete quarterly CRA reviews.
- Work with the Chief Risk Officer on annual risk assessment completion.
- Oversee the completion of the outsourced MERS audit and collaborate with the mortgage team.
- Complete scheduled audits, including the annual progress report.
- Conduct research on laws and regulations, assist with staff training, and stay current on compliance and audit issues.
- Run Compliance Officer meetings, attend strategic alignment meetings, and present as needed.
- Review marketing materials for compliance and answer employee compliance questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Risk Management, or related field required.
- Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation preferred.
- CAMS, CFE, CIA, or other relevant certifications desirable.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsible banking compliance experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal consumer protection regulations and compliance risk management practices.
- Experience interacting with federal and state regulatory agencies preferred.
