About the role

Our client in the power solutions industry is looking for a Field Service Load Tap Changer (LTC) Specialist to support the repair, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and modernization of utility-scale power transformer load tap changers in field and manufacturing environments. This position is a mix of field work, R&D support at the manufacturing facility, and remote work from home.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with vacuum and conventional LTC technologies, proficiency using transformer testing equipment, and the ability to interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities and a commitment to safety in high-voltage environments are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead field repairs, rebuilds, and modernization projects for utility-scale load tap changers
  • Perform LTC troubleshooting and failure analysis
  • Conduct mechanical timing assessments and electrical testing to validate performance
  • Interpret test data to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions
  • Travel to customer sites to support planned maintenance and emergency service needs
  • Evaluate and implement control system modernization solutions for legacy tap changers
  • Support R&D plant initiatives involving motor drive mechanisms and digital controller upgrades
  • Provide remote technical support to field personnel, customers, and internal teams
  • Develop work instructions, service procedures, and technical documentation for field activities
  • Build service kits and support small technical projects and related administrative tasks
  • Generate teardown reports, parts lists, and final testing documentation
  • Ensure compliance with lockout/tagout, confined space, and high-voltage safety procedures

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with utility-scale power transformer LTC is required
  • Experience repairing, rebuilding, and troubleshooting vacuum and conventional LTCs is required
  • Proficiency utilizing transformer testing equipment is required
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics and mechanical assembly drawings is required
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights is required
  • Ability to travel 50% to job sites and manufacturing facilities is required

Pay

$60-$80/hour + overtime (1.5X) + annual bonus

Schedule

Core office hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (flexible). Position is full-time with 50% travel to customer job sites and manufacturing facilities.
