About the role
As a Howl-O-Scream Scare Actor (Performer II), you'll deliver spine-tingling performances and scares to thrill-seeking guests, collaborate with our production team, and form lifelong bonds within the SeaWorld Entertainment Community. You'll also enjoy exclusive employee-only events like ride nights and special previews.
Responsibilities
- Deliver high-energy, frightening performances for guests.
- Collaborate with the production team to enhance the Howl-O-Scream event.
- Perform in various roles, including:
- Haunted House Performers (stationary and active roles, some scripted dialogue).
- Pathway Scare Performers (roaming and interactive positions).
- M.C./Event Host/Vignette Performers (scripted, high-energy characters for stage or street events).
- Specialty Performers (contortionists, sliders, stilt walkers, drywall-style stilts).
- DJs (live mixing experience preferred).
- Consistently execute stage direction and show content as directed by Event and Show Producers and Entertainment Leadership.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, while maintaining professionalism.
- Perform physical activities such as kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching, standing, sitting, crawling, laying down, and jumping.
- Engage in vocalizations including sudden screams, gasps, wails, and vocal manipulation.
- Wear multi-layered clothing, face masks (partial or full), wigs, and other theatrical costuming.
- Positively interact with guests and team members of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Adapt to performance feedback and critiques.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Flexible availability every week Thursdays through Sundays during the event (September 11 – November 1, 2026).
- Ability to work varying shifts, including opening/closing shifts and after-hour rehearsals.
- Comfortable working in environments with atmospheric effects (strobes, fog, smoke, haze, mist, bubbles, snow, scents).
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to stand, sit, and/or walk for prolonged periods.
- Previous experience in theme park entertainment, dance, theatre, or related fields is preferred.
- Previous guest experience in a high-volume capacity is preferred.
Auditions
Live and in-person auditions will be held at the Hubbs Research Institute, 2595 Ingraham St, San Diego, CA 92109 on the following dates:
- August 4 (Tuesday) – 6 PM (Regular and Specialty Role Auditions).
- August 13 (Thursday) – 6 PM (Regular and Specialty Role Auditions).
- August 15 (Saturday) – 1 PM (Regular and Specialty Role Auditions).
For specialty roles (MC/Host, Vignettes, Stilt Walker, Slider, Contortionist, DJ), bring the following to your audition:
- Headshot.
- Resume.
- 60-second villainous monologue tailored to the role(s) you're auditioning for, such as:
- Stilt Walker.
- Slider.
- Contortionist.
- HOS DJ (live mixing experience preferred).
- Scaremony.
- Ringmaster.
- Carnival Barker.
- Vile Vignettes (Fortune Teller, Chaotic Magician, Paranormal Researcher, Research Assistant, Possessed Ghost, Killer Doll, Shifty Gambler).
Pay
$19.00 USD per hour.

Schedule
Howl-O-Scream 2026 runs from Friday, September 11th to Sunday, November 1st. Must have flexible availability every week Thursdays through Sundays during this period.
