SGI Global is seeking a Litigation Support Specialist responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving Litigation Support in three or more other IT specialty areas which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's office for the District of Minnesota.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical advice to litigation teams on legal automation options, systems capabilities, and support services available to aid in case preparation, trial preparation, and trial presentation.
- Performs a wide range of information system analysis, development, and installation in support of USAO DMN litigation support activities for assigned cases.
- Develops project management strategies and tools for gathering, tracking, processing, reviewing, organizing, and producing case information in an effective, efficient, and defensible manner in coordination with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), investigators, federal agents, and paralegal specialists.
- Recommends a variety of software packages including database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications based on effectiveness for organization and management of information, presentation of complex evidence, or production of graphic demonstrative evidence. Recommends best practices and procedures for processing information as part of case preparation.
- Provides litigation support services, including trial preparation and presentation, directly or in conjunction with the USAO's Litigation Support Manager.
- Defines and creates case databases for processing electronically stored information (ESI), case review, production, organization, and trial presentation.
- Plans and coordinates efforts with other agencies or offices involved in litigation team activities, including recommending best practices and procedures for collecting ESI in a defensible manner using available software.
- Organizes voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as processing ESI in common litigation applications (e.g., LAW Prediscovery, Nuix, Eclipse, Relativity), OCRing, indexing, and production of documents to and from a database.
- Ensures documents are organized for efficient electronic storage and retrieval by processing ESI, defining deduplication scope, quality control, preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria, and indexing databases.
- Prepares graphical presentations, demonstrative exhibits, and trial presentations.
- Coordinates with the Litigation Technology Support Center (LTSC) and vendors as needed.
- Installs, configures, and maintains litigation support equipment, including setting up and maintaining trial presentation equipment.
- Evaluates the efficiency of litigation support technology to ensure responsiveness to attorney and case needs, representing the best methodology available.
- Performs testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, and maintenance of litigation support resources to ensure systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency.
- Schedules the installation of new or modified litigation support hardware and software, resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems, and optimizing systems performance.
- Assists in maintaining the district's litigation support equipment inventory.
- Manages and operates a variety of electronics, including PCs, laptops, printers, plotters, audio-video devices (e.g., HDMI TVs, DVD/Blu-ray players), eDiscovery processing computers, and equipment for conceptualizing exhibits and completing special presentation projects.
- Develops standards and procedures for applications.
- Provides customer support, including installation troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements.
- Diagnoses and resolves problems in response to customer-reported incidents, including installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware and software.
- Provides customer training, including orientation for new users, and assesses feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements.
- Analyzes automated litigation support in coordination with the USAO's Litigation Support Manager and recommends changes to improve support, increase system efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Monitors system uses and response time, conducts cost-benefit analyses, and develops implementation plans.
- Diagnoses and resolves litigation support computer system problems and customizes databases and programs to meet individual user needs.
- Develops and evaluates procedures and computer specifications to ensure indexing consistency and maximize ease of document retrieval from tailored data files.
- Evaluates new developments in legal technology, including eDiscovery, analytics, trial presentation software and equipment, and trial exhibit preparation, recommending modifications and upgrades of software and equipment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the legal process and familiarity with both civil and criminal law at the federal and local level, including the government's legal discovery obligations, meet-and-confer processes with opposing parties, and the role of the Information Technology Specialist in identifying and resolving discovery issues.
- Ability to communicate with attorneys, understand legal and factual issues, and recommend options for managing and presenting data.
