Litigation Paralegal

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of case calendars and ensure all court deadlines are tracked and met.
  • Electronically file documents in both federal and state courts under attorney supervision.
  • Conduct online research.
  • Draft pleadings, notices, and motions.
  • Request and summarize medical records.
  • Prepare medical chronologies for attorney review.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm, including case preparation from beginning to end.
  • An understanding of a paralegal’s role in the litigation life cycle (especially written discovery and expert discovery).
  • A knowledge of Virginia state and federal court procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Well-developed critical thinking skills.
  • Detail oriented, producing neat and accurate work product.
  • The ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Proactive issue resolution.
  • Able to be a true team player.

Education: 2 or 4-year degree and a paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience may be substituted.

Skills: Ability to conduct research as needed using various research tools.

Flexibility: To work overtime as needed to meet business needs.
