Litigation Manager

About the Role

Facilitate and monitor all pre-litigation and current litigation associated with assigned facilities. Act as liaison between facilities and defense counsel to ensure efficient case management towards resolution. Continuously review open cases and pre-litigation matters to alert the Deputy General Counsel and escalate issues as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate discovery responses on behalf of the facility; identify PMK deponents; explain discovery process to facility.
  • Manage case coordination, record collection, and other work product efforts, including:
    • Consistent and ongoing facility and legal communications.
    • Record collection, review, and analysis.
    • Resolving questions and issues that arise during litigation.
    • Analyzing appropriateness of various legal motions as necessary.
    • Monitoring deadlines and trial dates.
    • Understanding and monitoring potentially available insurance lines.
    • Interacting with insurance carriers.
    • Preparing for and attending mediations.
    • Monitoring trials and arbitrations; daily analysis of same.
    • Providing “lessons learned” to facilities with legal analysis regarding case resolutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in litigation defense, particularly in healthcare/personal injury.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate (optional).

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legal writings, medical documents, technical periodicals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to present information concisely and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic math, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Experience with insurance coverage issues preferred.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in the litigation setting to efficiently resolve matters. Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must analyze case facts, apply relevant jurisdiction law, and determine reasonable settlement values.
