About the role
Join a team working with the Navy's Department of Defense Supercomputing Resource Center (DSRC) and be part of a team that supports some of the world's most complex and technically advanced systems. Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level administration of RedHat Linux systems, ensuring optimal performance and security.
- Perform systems enhancement, configuration, maintenance, installation, and software upgrades.
- Lead a team of high-performing Linux administrators, providing guidance, technical expertise, and project leadership.
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment, sharing lessons learned and best practices.
- Maintain and manage the Enterprise Satellite server, ensuring it meets the organization's software deployment and updates needs.
- Automate routine and complex tasks using Ansible, streamlining operations and improving efficiency.
- Maintain documentation and records to demonstrate adherence to regulatory requirements.
Requirements
- Technical Expertise: In-depth experience with Linux server administration, particularly in high-security environments, and comfortable working with both classified and unclassified systems.
- Collaboration: Works well in a team and communicates effectively with network engineers, security specialists, and other infrastructure teams.
- Problem-Solving: Skilled in identifying issues, troubleshooting, and implementing effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Automation Skills: Experience with scripting languages like Bash, Python, or Perl and tools such as Puppet or Ansible to automate system administration tasks.
- Security Awareness: Strong understanding of security practices, particularly in a DoD environment. Familiarity with STIGs.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing priorities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of experience preferred (additional experience may be substituted for the degree).
- At least 6 years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II or higher certification required- Security + and OS cert, Linux+, RedHat, etc. (waiver may be provided to obtain the OS certification).
- General knowledge of Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts as well as systems administration experience.
- Experience supporting virtual machines, mass storage, and email servers.
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls).
- Familiarity with DoD security guidelines and requirements (STIGs, FISMA, etc.).
- Experience with automation and scripting (Puppet, Ansible, Bash, Python, Perl).
- Experience working in a classified environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and infrastructure issues.
