About the role

The Flagstaff dock is hiring a Lineman Journeyman. This position is designated as "Hard-to-Fill" and is eligible for a $10,000 signing bonus under specific terms. The role requires working onsite in the field and/or at an APS facility, with typical hours of Monday-Friday, 6am-2:30pm (Summer) and 7am-3:30pm (Winter). Employees must live or relocate within a reasonable distance of the headquarters (one hour). Travel reimbursement may be available for out-of-state candidates.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Completed a Registered Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Program or an equivalent training program (as approved by APS T&D Technical & Safety Training) plus one year of experience as a Journeyman Lineman.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (Class “A”) with ability to meet all DOT requirements. Must have at least a Class A CDL permit at the time of application and a clean driving record.
    • If applying with a CDL Permit, a valid Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions, e.g., airbrakes) must be obtained prior to the official start date.
    • If applying with an out-of-state CDL, a valid Arizona Class A CDL license (with no mechanical restrictions, e.g., airbrakes) must be obtained within 30 days of the official start date.
  • Experience working on all types of distribution lines including 4kv to 21kv and all related equipment.
  • Must live within a reasonable distance of headquarters (one hour).
  • Must pass written and hands-on exams and successfully demonstrate climbing skills.
  • Requires working with aerial equipment, which has weight restrictions of 300 pounds or less.
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to U.S. Export Control Laws.

Qualifications

For applicants electing to qualify based on the completion of a registered apprenticeship program, the following criteria apply:

  • Program must have a documented process for hours worked in the field in the work processes associated with the craft (e.g., distribution, transmission, maintenance). Registered apprenticeship programs require 7,000 – 10,000 hours (3-5 years).
  • Program must have documented proof of completion of related education classroom courses. Registered apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 144 hours per year of related education courses during the apprenticeship.
  • Journeyman-level experience must be documented in writing if a certificate of completion of a Registered Apprenticeship is unavailable. This requires a letter on company letterhead documenting job title, roles and responsibilities, and length of time in the position, signed by an operations or HR manager.

Testing Information

  • Tests are only administered to referred candidates.
  • A written (paper and pencil) test will be administered.
  • A computer-based test with a keyboard will be administered.
  • A hands-on skills test will be administered.
  • Email will be the method of contact for test scheduling. Applicants should check their email regularly for scheduling notifications.

Additional Documentation

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  • For those qualifying based on a registered apprenticeship program: apprentice number and a copy of the Registered Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship Program Completion Certificate.
  • For those qualifying based on experience or equivalent training: an official letter from HR management or operations leadership detailing job title, roles and responsibilities, and length of time in the position.
  • A copy of the Class A CDL license (or permit) (front and back, in color).
