Job Summary
Aid in the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Operate line trucks and associated equipment.
Residency Requirements
Must reside within a 35-mile radius/40 roadway miles of the service location.
What You'll Do
- Climb poles or ride in buckets to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles.
- Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
- Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment like transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices.
- Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
- Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
- Service streetlight systems.
- Patrol power lines.
- Perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience: Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification written test with a score of 80% or higher and successful completion of hands-on comprehensive demonstrations. External candidates must have a minimum of 4 years line work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must possess and maintain a valid CDL A state driver's license.
- Other Requirements: Ability to climb and work at heights, communicate effectively, pass the AEP Pre-Assessment Evaluation, and acquire the necessary qualifications for the next higher line of progression or vacate the current job classifications.
Work Hours / Travel Requirements
40 hours per week with overtime and travel as required. Available for overtime callouts including weekends and holidays.

The physical demand level for this job is Heavy Work (H): Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
