Line Worker Apprentice-Multiple Levels-Hampton, SC
Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina has an opening for an Apprentice Linemen for Electric Distribution Operations in Hampton, SC. The position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with the construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground electric lines on our distribution system.
Responsibilities
- Regularly climb and work from utility poles and other tall structures
- Safely handle heavy/bulky equipment and materials
- Be available to respond to callouts and urgent needs 24 hours/day, 7 days/week
- Work outside in inclement weather conditions
- Consistently adhere to safety rules to work in proximity of high and low voltage electric equipment
- Successfully complete the four (4) year apprenticeship training program which includes both written and hands-on instruction
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
- 0 – 3 years of directly related experience (starting at $26.70/hour)
- 3 – 5 years of line worker experience and training* (starting at $31.21/hour)
- 5+ years of line worker experience and training* (starting at $37.99/hour)
*Must provide documentation and demonstrate previous training.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license with a good driving history
- Ability to be safety conscious and work in proximity of high and low voltage electrical equipment
- Must be able to successfully complete DESC 4-year apprenticeship training program
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-Class A) within six (6) months of hire
- Excellent physical condition, strong mechanical skills, and the ability to work long hours during emergency or storm restoration situations
- Ability to work outside in heat and cold, frequently in inclement weather conditions
- Be available to work after hours, scheduled overtime, and callout work
- Live within a 20-mile radius (or 30-minute drive) of the position's service territory/work location within 6 months of hire
- Be physically and mentally capable of climbing and working from utility poles

Other Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift materials weighing at least 50lbs
- Operate heavy machinery/equipment involving heavy loads
- Manually pulling on a hand line while hoisting materials
- Climbing at least 40-45 ft pole wearing hooks, attachment strapped to the boot and penetrates utility pole
- Set anchors by hand (8 ft long, 10 inch flange)
- Operate an extend stick (15 lbs)
- Manually operate post-hole diggers to excavate holes up to 6 feet deep
- Install equipment weighing 500-750lbs via line truck or with blocks while positioned on upper section of utility pole
- Operate a pump gun
- Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, site, push/pull
- Must be able to walk, stand, and climb on unlevel terrain on a daily basis
- Must be able to reach above shoulder level, use fine finger movements, and maintain balance
- Must be able to handle heights
- Drive a ground rod with sledgehammer
Pay
Starting Hourly Rate: $26.70
