Line Operator 2 NIGHTS - OK - Entry Level Position

About the role

The Line Operator 2 serves as the front line of the production operation and is responsible for the basic operations of the extrusion lines. This role assists with training new hires in the process and works to develop a more in-depth understanding of quality standards. The Line Operator 2 must follow all procedures to ensure the proper, safe, and efficient operation of their production line.

Responsibilities

• Performs basic production duties such as loading cores onto the core table, pulling trim, adjusting roll widths, and preparing the finished product by pulling, lifting, labeling, and packaging stretch film rolls.
• Inspects the visual quality of rolls and removes those that don’t meet established quality standards.
• Uses roll weight computer systems to accurately weigh rolls and/or boxes of finished product and reports finished products on required documents.
• Cuts and prepares scrap bins for recycling.
• Prepares product for shipping by setting up skids with required packaging materials, packing trays or boxes with finished rolls, and manually pre-wrapping trays with stretch film.
• Moves completed skids using manual and electric pallet jacks.
• Trains on and performs duties on various lines, rewinders, and other areas of the production floor to increase knowledge and fulfill staffing needs.
• Trains on quality standards and controls, performs quality testing, completes tasks in the quality lab, and reports quality test results to management.
• Assists with ensuring continuous line operation, coordinating shift change activities, and notifying senior operators or management of any issues.
• Assists with training new line operators.
• Maintains housekeeping on the line to ensure a clean work environment and prepares the work area for shift change.
• Performs any other duties as requested or assigned by management.

Requirements

• Demonstrated proficiency in the duties of preceding Line Operator roles.
• Technical aptitude to understand machinery and systems within a production environment.
• Mechanical aptitude to properly utilize basic hand tools with accuracy.
• Ability to understand and properly utilize scales, weights, and other measurement tools with accuracy.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and handle unexpected delays while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• High level of dependability regarding attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
• Basic math skills.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in an environment that generates static electricity, which may interfere with certain medical devices.
• Ability to use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks being performed.
• Ability to use hands, including fingers, to hold, touch, feel, grip, squeeze, push, and pull.
• Ability to perform pushing, pulling, and forward exertion on a regular basis.
• Ability to extend arms overhead on a regular basis.
• Ability to use enhanced levels of manual dexterity with arms and hands to operate industrial power tools occasionally.
• Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete floor for 12-hour shifts.
• Ability to stand, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat frequently.
• Ability to kneel occasionally.
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally.
• Ability to work on elevated platforms.
• Ability to climb on uneven surfaces occasionally.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move between 45-55 lbs.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.
• Ability to communicate verbally, in person, and over a paging system.
• Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all PPE when required.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in a plastics manufacturing environment.

Environmental Conditions

The role requires working indoors in a hot or cold and moderately loud environment. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while performing job functions.
