Line Controls Specialist

The Line Controls Specialist works closely with the line mechanical specialist to ensure appropriate processes, capabilities, and routines support production by developing autonomous and preventive maintenance capability, with specific focus on the electrical, power, controls, and information systems of a manufacturing line. The role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, and recommending control changes to improve business results in safety, quality, production, delivery, cost, and morale.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in line Daily Direction Setting (DDS) meetings and execution of the daily plan, including reporting results of the previous 24 hours: number of breakdowns, resolved/unresolved defects, project management, etc.
• Serve as a coach and resource for the line team and actively participate in the execution of maintenance plans.
• Develop manufacturing technicians' capability to inspect equipment for defects and correct them.
• Support development and lead portions of 90-day loss elimination plans and the annual maintenance plan.
• Partner with the line maintenance specialist in leading the breakdown elimination (BDE) daily management system (DMS) to drive breakthrough results in line stops and planned/unplanned downtime, with a focus on electrical, power, controls, and information systems.
• Lead the Maintenance, Planning, and Scheduling System to plan maintenance periods for resolving defects identified through equipment inspections, scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) work orders, and annual maintenance tasks/rebuilds.
• Ensure revision and updating of maintenance system technical documentation as necessary.
• Develop work instructions to ensure maintenance tasks are completed using best-practice, standardized methods.
• Support the line team in troubleshooting potential controls-related breakdowns and process failures.
• Program controls equipment to ensure machine performance meets safety, quality, and production requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma (or GED) required.
• Bachelor’s Degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience preferred; degree/certification in electrical engineering, automation, or control systems is a plus.
• 4+ years of experience working with automation and control systems in industrial manufacturing with a High School Diploma or GED OR 2+ years with a Bachelor’s Degree/technical certification.
• Proficient with PLC/HMI/SCADA programming, electrical design, variable frequency drives, and industrial electrical hardware.
• Proficiency in Allen Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and networks (DeviceNet, ControlNet, DH+, remote I/O, and Ethernet).
• Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation, sensors (PNP, NPN), and transmitters (temperature, flow, conductivity, pH, pressure, etc.).
• Knowledge of variable frequency drives and servo motors.
• Ability to work with and lead a team of manufacturing technicians.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed to support a 24/7 operation.
